How to Create an At-Home Spa Day

It’s the beginning of the new year and, if you're like me, you did not get the R&R you were hoping for over the holiday break. The full inbox waiting for you at the start of the work week didn’t help either.  Here's your chance to rejuvenate at home with some serious self-care.

Draw the bath, light a few candles, and tell Alexa to start your playlist. Here are 3 things you need to create a five-star spa experience at home.

3 Things you need for a luxurious at-home spa day

1. Set the mood

Serene and sensory is the goal.

A comfortable and calming atmosphere is paramount to enjoying your spa experience. This can be achieved by dimming the lights, lighting some aromatic candles, and playing soft music or nature sounds. Create a sense of privacy by closing the blinds (or locking your kids out of the bathroom).

2. Select your services

Choose 2-3 services to pamper yourself with. We recommend:

Luxurious Bubble Bath

A few things to remember when creating a bathing experience:

Temperature
Test the temp with your wrist, the most sensitive part of your body, before submerging into water that’s too hot or too cold. The ideal temp is around your body temperature, plus a few degrees based on your preference.

Treat
Use this time to treat your skin with an exfoliating scrub to slough away dead skin. After cleansing, apply a small amount of sugar scrub to your skin, using circular motions to massage it into your skin.  Pay special attention to rough or dry areas, such as your elbows, knees, and feet. Submerge to rinse the sugar scrub off and reveal polished, moisturized skin.

Time
Keep your time in the tub short 15-to-30 minutes. Soaking for longer will leave you with cold water and wrinkled skin. Eww.

Body Butter Massage

Applying an emollient-rich body butter after bathing will help lock in hydration.

Don’t just apply body butter, though. Extend your spa experience by massaging it in to improve circulation and reduce tension, leaving your body feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and smooth.

Nourishing Facial

Cleanse, treat, and condition your skin with this 3-Step Facial + Skincare Routine

Cleanse
Begin by oil cleansing to remove any dirt and makeup on your skin. Massage while cleansing using gentle, circular motions with your fingers or a massage tool making sure to avoid pulling or tugging on your skin. Focus a little more attention on areas that tend to be tense or stressed, such as your forehead, temples, and jawline.

Treat
Incorporate a targeted solution to treat any specific skin concerns you have, depending on your skin type, condition, or environmental triggers.  We love incorporating a custom clay mask, or creating one of your own from kitchen ingredients.

Condition
Lock in hydration with a facial oil formulated to address your skin concerns. For oily and acne-prone skin, opt for a balancing moisturizer to help regulate your skin’s oil production. For normal, dry, and combination types, look for something that is hydrating.  If your skin is sensitive and irritated, look for a moisturizer that can help calm inflammation. We recommend an all-in-one facial oil serum that’s nourishing to all skin types.

3. Snacks make it five-star

There’s nothing more luxurious than sipping on champagne in the tub or a bite of something decadent under a facial mask.

You’ll want to have some light refreshments on hand, such as fruit-infused or sparkling water, warm herbal tea, or a glass of wine. Also have nearby some nutrient-rich snacks, like a fruit and vegan cheese board, to nibble on while you relax.

The beauty of an at-home spa day is the variety of ways you can truly make it your own.

Use this moment to check in with yourself and your skin.

Enjoy the indulgence. ✌🏽
